"Most days have their challenges, but it’s part of what I love about the life I've created."
Hawaiian Born, Indonesian raised, Missouri educated. Aylya is a half-Japanese, half-American model, actress, and mother.
What was your favorite part of participating in our Mix Modal campaign?
“I was seriously blown away by how comfortable all the Mix Modal clothing was. I could put it on and never take it off. That fabric is unreal. But high on my list is jamming out to the great music they play while we shoot, and getting to know the crew.”
Aside from modeling, what are your other current occupations?
“I am an actress, currently working on a Freeform show about badass mermaids called Siren.”
Can you walk us through a typical day in your life?
“There really is no typical day in my life. It always starts with waking up around 7 for some morning cuddles with my son. Then we have breakfast and coffee and get ready for the day. Some days I have auditions and end up running around the city like a mad man, changing outfits in the car. Some days are pretty open and I'll go to the gym, go for a bike ride with my son. We work in the garden, taking care of all the fruits and veggies growing, we draw, paint, sing, go to the beach, run a lot of errands. And sometimes I spend all day on set and my mom or boyfriend help coordinate things with my son. Every day is different. Most days have their challenges, but it’s part of what I love about the life I've created.”
How would you describe your own personal style?
“My personal style definitely starts with comfort. I wear a lot of oversized, a lot of mens, and a lot of overalls. Like I stole clothes from someone else's closet, and somehow they still look good. I like the unexpected. Like dressing up overalls to wear on a red carpet, or my favorite orange boots that somehow go with everything.”
Who are your personal heroes and why?
“Growing up my father was always my hero. He was always filled with compassion and love for people, and always worked so hard to get so much done and to do it well. I learned a lot from seeing that growing up. And now when I see those qualities in others, they become heroes, too. I really believe that the world needs compassion, love, and hard work to heal itself, and each person that exudes those traits is a leader, a hero.”
What are your 3 favorite AA items?
“I started modeling for AA about 9 years ago, and I still have a few of the Cotton Crossback Bras. I wear them all the time, and they are still in great shape after almost a decade. I recently discovered the Cross V Bodysuit and I love it. As someone with a small chest, a lot of low-cut shirts expose me the minute I lean forward. Not this one. I feel so secure in it I don't have to think twice. And then, the most comfortable pants I have ever put on in my life: the Mix Modal sweats. They are like wearing clouds. Clouds with pockets.”
