"I initially wanted to be a beatmaker"
Born in L.A. and Iranian by blood, the artist known as Shey Baba has been making music since age 7.
How did you get started in music?
“While attempting college to appease my parents (love you Mom and Dad), I got heavy into J Dilla and Madlib and initially wanted to be a beatmaker, then started listening to more Jeff Buckley and Chris Martin and wanted to be a singer-songwriter, worked really hard on both for a while and now lucky enough to be making music for a living.”
What are some of your other passions or hobbies?
“Brainless YouTubing, basketball, Smash bros (N64), tempering delusions of grandeur, tempering lack of self-worth, clothes, MMA, poker, biomechanics.”
Who (or what) inspires you as an artist?
“Mortality, Chopin, naive love, entropy, Portishead, Elon, and all things ephemeral.”
Can you describe a typical day in your life?
“Making music/prepping for live shows, mixing productivity with daydreaming, making the most nutritious smoothies possible thanks to Dr. Rhonda Patrick (shoutout). Life is good; very blessed.”
How would you describe your own personal style?
“Casual-comfortable. Some days: vintage tee, jeans, boots. Other days more athletic wear. Most days a pair of dirty white Chucks. Slowly moving away from shades (blacks, whites, grays) and more into colors, endlessly searching for timeless, high-quality-material pieces on the cheap (aren’t we all).”
What are your 3 favorite AA items?
“ The Heavy Jersey Box Tee, Straight Jean, and the French Terry Basketball Short.”
